Why does a landing airplane look like moving slow, even though it's traveling at a great speed?
It's due to Velocity Transposition which is an illusion of velocity and size, the larger the vehicle, the slower it appears it is moving.
This applies to large trucks on roads, where we underestimate how fast it is moving and end up merging or cutting in front of them, only to realize the speed at the last minute.
A truck approaching at 90kph appears to be moving more slowly than a small car approaching at 90kph.
How to handle :
Don't cut off in front of trucks, unless you have around 6-10 seconds of clearance.
If a truck is moving at 60kmph,in 6-10 seconds it will move 100-200metres,which is approximately 20 car length.
Also, research says, it is difficult to estimate the speed of oncoming vehicles.
It’s better to wait for the truck to cross and then change lanes when it is safe.
